Today, we sit down with Donna to unravel her journey—from covering her idols to becoming one herself, the challenges of hiatus, and how she continues to redefine what it means to live and breathe K-pop culture. Ready to dive into the mind of a performer who leaves every ounce of herself on the stage? Let’s begin.
You began your journey as CL in the 2NE1 cover group Bigbangs. What drew you to 2NE1 specifically, and how did embodying CL shape your understanding of performance?
Because of 2NE1, I dreamed even more of becoming a POP IDOL. Ever since I was a child, I’ve loved dancing, so when I grew up and discovered 2NE1, I aspired to be like them—especially CL. She gave me the confidence to dream big and the courage to perform on stage, all thanks to her inspiration.
Performing at KPOPCONX in 2019 with Bigbangs was a milestone. What emotions or memories stand out from that “last comeback” performance?
Goosebumps! Especially when all the fandoms united, waving K-pop lightsticks from old-gen to new-gen groups. We were so happy because we never expected almost everyone in the crowd to cheer, sing along, and go wild—especially during “I AM THE BEST“—the venue was roaring, haha! We felt completely overwhelmed, especially when we found out we trended on Twitter. People said they missed 2NE1 and their music, and it brought back nostalgia for them. We’re so grateful to Kpopcon for giving us the chance to perform again after years of hiatus. That moment meant everything.
Bigbangs once attended 2NE1’s first concert in the Philippines. How did witnessing that live experience influence your approach to performing?
Our confidence skyrocketed even more! We learned ideas on how to command the stage, embody that attitude swag like 2NE1, master their iconic stage presence, and style outfits or strike poses like them. Ever since we watched them perform, I’ve been super inspired to push myself to perform with the same passion and skill as they do.

During your hiatus from Bigbangs, what motivated you to return to the K-pop scene as a solo cosplayer? Was the transition challenging?
The reason I returned to the K-pop community was “I MISSED THE STAGE AND KPOP EVENTS—I MISSED PERFORMING.” But you know what? When I came back, the first thing I felt was fear. Fear because I thought I might be the only ‘old-gen’ person left participating (which was true!). I was even hesitating whether to continue, but I told myself, ‘Just go for it! You missed performing on stage, right?’ Haha. So I pushed through.
Then, my second worry was, ‘What if they don’t even know the songs I’ll perform?’ By 2022, K-pop had entered a new era, and I was nervous about my first comeback event. I thought, ‘These songs are old—what if the crowd has no idea?’ But I was shocked—they actually knew them. I was so happy when they cheered and sang along. After that, I kept pushing myself to join and perform at more K-pop events.
In 2022, you were crowned the MIA of Everglow look-alike at KPOPCON11. How did you prepare for that competition, and what did winning this title mean to you?
This event is extremely meaningful to me because I’ve always wanted to make a name for myself in the K-pop community beyond just being known as a CL cover artist. Since 2011, I’ve been submitting entries as 2NE1’s CL, Crayon Pop’s Way, and Mia of Everglow (2022). I told myself, ‘This is the last try. If I don’t win, maybe it’s just not meant to be.’ But then—surprise!—I unexpectedly became one of the chosen look-alike finalists. After 11 years of trying, I never imagined I’d finally be selected. All that waiting was so worth it.
This moment is deeply special, especially because my lifelong dream of being recognized and building a name in the K-pop community here in the Philippines… it actually came true ♥️.

You’re called a “multi-awarded self-made K-pop cosplayer.” What drives your dedication to authenticity in cosplay, from costumes to stage presence?
In K-pop cosplay, every detail matters extremely—from head-to-toe costumes to perfectly mimicking the stage presence of the idol you’re portraying. Whether you dance, sing, or simply embody their vibe, the goal is for the audience to instantly recognize who you’re cosplaying.
That’s why, for me, even the smallest mannerisms matter. I study every gesture, expression, and movement of the idol I’m channeling. That way, even if I’m judged onstage or just watched casually, people immediately know who I’m embodying. You have to master their essence.
My standards for cosplay/covering in K-pop are sky-high, which is probably why I’ve been called a ‘multi-awarded, self-made K-pop cosplayer.’ Every time I perform or cosplay, I pour extra effort into perfecting the costume, performance, and attitude. When you step onstage, the audience should know exactly who you are—and that’s what makes it all worth it.
Your motto is to treat every performance as if it’s your last. How does this mindset elevate your connection with the audience?
I simply give my best and show them who I am. 🙂 As they say, ‘Save the best for last’—who knows if there’ll be more chances? So as long as you can, keep pushing. What matters is enjoying the moment and making people happy by giving your all.
Your persona “The Slayer and the Baddest—Donna” radiates confidence. How do you channel this energy, and does it differ from your offstage self?
Haha, honestly, it’s the opposite! Onstage, I’m all ’slayer and baddest’ energy, but offstage? I’m super playful! 😆 Though it depends—sometimes your onstage persona shifts based on the performance or the character you’re channeling. Maybe it’s because I’ve gotten so used to embodying the attitude of the idols I cover. I’ve studied their vibes so much that it just naturally takes over when I’m performing. But once I step offstage? Totally flipped—back to my chill, goofy self!
What’s been the most rewarding part of your journey, from covering 2NE1 to now carving your own legacy as Donna?
One of the biggest rewards for me has been the friends I’ve made since joining the K-pop community. I’m forever grateful to these friends who still support me today, whether I’m active or not—they’ve stuck by me through it all.
Second, I’ve carved out a name for myself in the K-pop scene. Even if I’m not exactly famous with the new-gen crowd these days (being an old-gen relic, haha!), I’m still happy because my dream of being recognized and making a mark in the community? It actually happened. My younger self would be proud. So thank you, truly ♥️
For aspiring cosplayers or performers who admire your path, what advice would you give them about staying true to their passion?
Don’t stop chasing your dreams. Don’t stop dreaming, period! Fight harder if it’s truly your dream—keep going as long as you can. If an opportunity comes, GO FOR IT. If not today, maybe tomorrow or the next day. Just never quit. And most importantly… Don’t worry about what others say. You’re amazing, no matter your talent—own it. PERIOD. Love you all 💖
