In the heart of Cebu City, where tropical beats meet global rhythms, Lilies is blooming. Formed in 2024, this K-Pop dance cover group isn’t just about nailing choreography—it’s about sharing a spark. Composed of passionate dancers united by their love for K-Pop, Lilies transforms stages into vibrant celebrations, mirroring the energy of their favorite idols.
Despite being new to Cebu’s dance scene, Lilies has already turned heads at Cebu’s Kpop festivals and Their secret? A mix of hard work, teamwork, and a simple goal: to spread the K-Pop love, one electrifying performance at a time.
Join us as we chat with Lilies about their journey, the challenges of syncing perfection, and what they learned so far as their young careers.
What inspired the formation of Lilies, and how did the members come together in 2024?
We actually started as strangers until a friend of a friend introduced us together, and that was the beginning of our friendship. Before this dance group even had a name, it was just a bond between people who dream together. We spent time dancing for fun, sharing ideas, and supporting each other through ups and downs. That connection sparked something bigger.
We realized that what we had wasn’t just friendship, it was creative energy, and passion. That’s what inspired us to officially form our dance group. We wanted to grow together, inspire others, and turn our shared love for dance into something powerful. What began as friends dancing together became a team with a vision.
Why did you choose the name “Lilies” for your group? Does it hold a special meaning?
We chose the name Lilies because we bloom when we’re on stage. Like the flower, we grow through challenges and shine our brightest in the spotlight. It’s a reminder of our strength, grace, and passion for dance.
As a new group, how would you describe Lilies’ unique identity compared to other K-Pop cover groups?
Lilies isn’t just about perfect choreography, we’re about heart. What makes us different is our deep connection as friends and the way we use that bond to bring emotion into every performance. We don’t just copy the moves, we try to capture the feeling, the message, and make it our own. Our goal isn’t to be the best, but to be real, to show our growth, our passion, and our unity every time we step on stage. That’s the identity of Lilies blooming with meaning, not just movement.
How do you select which K-Pop songs or artists to cover? Are there specific elements (e.g., choreography, music style) that guide your choices?
Since we are five members, we chose a group that also consists of five members, we love to cover cool and fierce styles. That’s why ITZY is our focused group to cover, aside from their cool vibes, Itzy inspired us to be a great performer and we love their songs.
Do you recreate original choreography faithfully, or do you add your own creative twists? What’s your philosophy here?
Every dance performance we really gave our creative thoughts on our performance, we’re looking for something that can add up to the dance cover, everyone has different ideas and it makes us more passionate, knowing that we can sharpen our performance through our creativity. But most of all the times we stick to the original choreography.
What’s the most challenging K-Pop routine you’ve learned so far, and how did you overcome those challenges?
When there’s a choreo that’s new to us, it’s hard to adapt easily. We overcome it by practicing it consistently and not giving up.
How do you prepare mentally and physically before stepping on stage to deliver your signature energy?
Before we perform, lilies take time to talk to each other, we remind each other to keep ourselves calm and things to do. Tho it’s very nervous and nerve wracking seeing a lot of people, but it’s nothing compared to our passion to perform. And the most important thing we always do is to pray and put all trust in GOD.
How has the K-Pop scene in Cebu City influenced your group’s journey? Are there local collaborations or events you’re proud of?
Seeing amazing K-Pop coverists here in Cebu City influence us to make a group, to showcase our talent to the community. Our K-Pop Fan heart is happy when there are K-Pop events that give us the opportunity to cover our favorite K-Pop group and as a dancer. The experiences didn’t just make us develop our skills but also to meet great people and strengthen our bonds together.
What kind of reactions have you received from audiences, and how does that motivate you?
We received so much love, compliments and support from different people. It motivates us to work hard and to showcase our talent even more.
How do you balance staying true to K-Pop culture while making your performances relatable to Filipino fans?
We try to stay true to K-pop culture by keeping the choreography, styling, and energy as close as possible to the original. At the same time, we make our performances relatable to Filipino fans by adding our own warmth, personality, and small touches that reflect who we are as Filipinos. We believe this balance allows us to honor K-pop while also connecting with the audience in a way that feels genuine and familiar.
As a new group, what obstacles have you faced in building your presence, and how did you tackle them?
As a new group in the K-pop coverist community, we are still learning and experiencing many things for the first time. At times, we feel the pressure and doubt our abilities on stage, but we also believe that these challenges are part of growing as performers. Every step, even
the difficult ones, help us improve and build our confidence.
How do you handle differences in creative opinions among members during rehearsals or planning?
As the group consists of five members, we really have different opinions and ideas in rehearsal and planning. Tho it’s a tough time to think about what to do and what to choose but we mindfully think what’s the best and right for the performance, and those ideas that are left will
also be used in the future.
What milestones do you hope to achieve in the next year? Are competitions or international collaborations on your radar?
We hope to join more dance competitions and push ourselves to reach a higher level of performance. Collaborating with other dance groups is also something we’d love to explore, since it helps us learn, grow, and share our passion with a wider community.
Beyond dance covers, are there other creative projects you’d like to explore (e.g., original music, workshops)?
Beyond dancing, we also have a passion for understanding music and exploring different forms of art. We’d love to collaborate with musicians, videographers, and visual artists to create unique projects.
We’re also looking forward to future opportunities where we can join projects,
be invited to events, or work with others who share the same passion
What message do you want Lilies to send to aspiring K-Pop dancers in the Philippines?
To all aspiring K-Pop dancers: don’t be afraid to start, even if you feel small or inexperienced.
Every dancer begins somewhere, and what matters most is consistency, passion, and teamwork. Keep practicing, stay inspired, and never lose the joy in dancing—because that’s what truly shines through in every performance.
