MONOLOOP is quickly carving out their own space in the indie scene with heartfelt vocals, expressive instrumentation, and a sound that blends emotion with edge. With growing attention on YouTube and social media, the band continues to evolve through honest storytelling and dynamic performances. In this interview, we dive into their creative process, musical journey, and the passion behind their rising momentum.

How did MONOLOOP come together, and what’s the meaning behind your name?

→ MONOLOOP was formed around December 2024. It started from my desire to create a project that fully captures my own musical identity.

The name combines MONO (one) and LOOP (infinite), symbolizing the idea of a single melody expanding endlessly into infinite musical possibilities.

I wanted to create music that may appear simple or monochromatic at first, yet carries many subtle shades of emotion within it.

How would you describe your musical style and message in a few words?

→ MONOLOOP’s sound is rooted in rock, but it focuses deeply on emotion and thought.

Our music reflects the philosophy, challenges, and inner turbulence of life.

In short, I’d describe it as “rock that makes you think.”

What makes MONOLOOP stand out in Korea’s indie band scene?

→ What makes MONOLOOP different is that we do everything ourselves.

From songwriting, composition, and arrangement to branding and production — it’s all self-made.

When you listen to our music, you can feel my own perspective and emotions flowing through every layer.

We’re a band that builds our own world from the ground up, and that’s what truly defines us.

Your debut single “Afterimage (잔상)” is emotionally powerful. What inspired it?

→ I’ve always loved K-pop and studied its sound design.

“Afterimage” grew out of that experience.

It’s about how relationships and emotions may fade over time, yet the feelings we had in those moments were real and precious.

Even emotions that seem meaningless in hindsight remain as afterimages that shape who we are.

How did the songwriting and production process for “Afterimage” unfold?

→ I led every part of the process myself.

I started by building the musical structure through composition, then layered the topline and lyrics to follow the emotional flow.

Production happened simultaneously as I worked — everything developed naturally together.

Do you usually start writing songs from melody, lyrics, or emotion first?

→ I usually start from the melody.

When a melody comes to mind, emotions naturally follow.

For me, melody is like a language of feeling — once it’s there, everything else finds its place around it.

Is there a lyric or moment in “Afterimage” that’s personally meaningful to you?

→ The chorus.

That’s where I wanted all the emotions to burst out.

It captures that instant when everything inside finally explodes — that’s the core of “Afterimage.”

How did it feel performing live at events like GIRLS BAND DAY?

→ It was the first time we performed in front of MONOLOOP fans.

We went through a lot to make that stage happen, so when it ended, I felt both relieved and grateful

The excitement, tension, and energy from the audience are still vivid in my memory.

What’s the most memorable performance MONOLOOP has had so far?

→ Definitely GIRLS BAND DAY.

It was the show we prepared for the most, and the first time we faced the audience as MONOLOOP.

In that moment, I truly felt that this band had come to life — that MONOLOOP had become real.

Do you have any pre-show rituals or habits before going on stage?

→ I hum a lot before the show.

I try not to think too much.

What can fans expect from MONOLOOP’s next chapter?

→ I want to reveal the full MONOLOOP universe.

Not just through music, but by connecting visuals, videos, and branding — everything will come together as one cohesive world.

What message would you like to share with your listeners and supporters?

→ I want to keep making music with sincerity and consistency.

Please continue to follow our journey and feel our sincerity through it.

I hope MONOLOOP’s challenges and growth can become something that inspires you, too.
