Emerging from Singapore’s vibrant and ever-evolving music scene, Hideaways is steadily carving out their own space with a sound that feels both intimate and atmospheric. Blending heartfelt lyricism with modern indie influences, the group captures emotions that resonate deeply with listeners navigating love, growth, and self-discovery.

As part of a new wave of artists redefining Southeast Asian music, Hideaways brings a refreshing authenticity to their craft — allowing vulnerability and storytelling to take center stage. With releases that reflect both personal reflection and sonic experimentation, they continue to build a growing audience beyond Singapore’s shores.

In this written interview, we dive into the inspiration behind their music, their creative journey, and what drives them as artists shaping their own path in today’s music landscape.

Can you introduce hideaways to our readers and share how the band was formed?

Hideaways is an alternative rock band that takes inspiration from all music genres to create something new. Formed after Kevyn, JL and Ridwan left Metalcore band, Reserate, then soon after we invited Qing to be our bassist.

What’s the story behind your band name, “hideaways”?

The story behind the name is that we want our band and our music to be someone’s hideaway from the troubles in their lives, hence the name hideaways. Each track is a new hideaway for someone seeking it.

How would you describe your sound to someone hearing your music for the first time?

Right now the best way to describe hideaways is twinkly midwest emo riffs, heavy low tuned guitar riffs mixed with beautiful botanica soundscapes and emo goodness.

Your track “circles” (feat. Debbi Koh) has a very emotional and immersive vibe — what inspired this song

The track was inspired by stories of dysfunctional couples who are both imperfect in the relationship but are also still perfect for each other.

No matter what issues they have, no matter how big, in the end they always come back to each other. In essence, it’s kind of a fucked up love song.

How did the collaboration with Debbi Koh come about?

We are long time friends with Debbi, our previous band also collaborated with her before on the cover of the Arcane song Playground.

Originally the song “circles” was written for the previous band to feature Debbi but the sound didn’t really fit for the old band.

Can you walk us through your songwriting process — does it start with lyrics, melody, or a jam session?

It usually starts with an instrumental arrangement inspired by a certain vibe. We will then try to come up with a good catchy melody/hooks before coming up with lyrical ideas we want to put across and fit the narrative.

Your music blends alternative, emo, and rock elements. Who are your biggest musical influences?

Bilmuri, Sleep Token, Porter Robinson

What themes do you often explore in your songs?

Right now, some really depressing introspective stuff.

How was your first live performance experience as a band?

Pretty great. The show had too many memorable moments, such as someone in the band’s pants tearing before the set.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from performing live so far?

Stretching before every show is the only peak ultimate tip for performing live.

How do you want audiences to feel after watching a hideaways show?

We want them to feel like they need more Hideaways. Would also be great if they feel like buying merch y’know ;). One shirt can feed the band for one night after a show lol.

As an emerging band from Singapore, how do you see the local music scene evolving?

We feel Singapore needs to have more cross border shows with our neighbouring countries in SEA so that we can break out of the local scene and spread the music on a bigger scale.

Are there any artists — local or international — you dream of collaborating with?
Local: Shye
International: Polyphia

Are you currently working on new music or a larger project (EP/album)?

We are currently working on our debut EP, but as songs are being written there’s a possibility of it just transforming into an album. Or y’know we might scrap that idea and just blast out singles to feed the algorithm.

What can fans expect from hideaways in 2026?

More music, more merch, and more of our souls to search.

What message would you like to share with listeners who connect deeply with your music?
Life sucks, but we’ll get through it.
If hideaways’ music were a safe space or “hideaway,” what would it represent?
Literally a hideaway lol think a Safe Room at the end of L4D maps.
