AWU is a newly re-debuted girl group composed of Dia, Lola and U_chae (DaJeong), formerly members of the K-pop girl group PIXY.

Carrying forward the strong identity they built through powerful music and intense performances, AWU enters this new chapter with a more mature and refined artistic presence.

As our featured guest, the group reflects on their journey of growth, evolution, and rediscovery—showcasing not only their continued strength on stage, but also the deeper artistry and perspective they have developed along the way.

First of all, can you please introduce AWU to our readers in the Philippines? What does the name “AWU” represent?

We can’t reveal it just yet because it’s still a secret, but it is related to our fandom, WINXY. We’ll share the story later, so please look forward to it!

How would you describe AWU’s musical identity and concept in three words?

We would say “diversity.”Each member has a different charm and personality, and those different qualities come together to create AWU’s music and concept. Because of that, we think listeners can interpret and enjoy our music in many different ways depending on their own tastes.

What makes AWU different from other girl groups in the industry today?

One of AWU’s biggest strengths is that each member has very different colors and charms. At the same time, we always try to deliver strong and memorable performances and music that can give energy to our listeners.

As a three-member group, how do you divide roles and responsibilities within the team?

Rather than assigning strict roles to each member, we try to work in a way where we support and complement each other. Our focus is on filling in for one another’s strengths and moving forward together as a team.

What message do you want fans to feel when they listen to your music?

We hope our music reminds people that we have returned, and that it gives fans a sense of strength and confidence, like having a strong supporter by their side.

Do you have any memorable moments together as three members that strengthened your teamwork?

It would be the moment when the three of us started practicing together again. It had been a long time since we danced together, so the feeling of matching our choreography again felt very nostalgic and special.

7.Are there any upcoming projects or activities that fans should look forward to?

We hope there will be opportunities to perform on stage and meet our fans, WINXY, who have been waiting for us.

MEMBER-FOCUSED QUESTIONS

For Dia:

What is your role in AWU, and how would you describe your personality within the group?

I think that rather than being limited to just one role, I want to grow into someone who can do many things well. My personality may seem strong at first, but I also have a soft and pure side. I think the strength that comes from that balance is something I really value about myself.

What has been your biggest growth moment since debut?

I think I realized my growth when I started creating my own music and building my own concepts and images. It made me feel like I had developed as an artist, and I hope to continue creating more things on my own in the future.

Is there a concept or genre you personally want to try in the future?

Considering my vocal color and image, I would love to try a synthwave genre. At the same time, based on my emotions and musical taste, I’d also like to explore a band-style genre.

For Lola:

What do you think is your strongest charm as a member of AWU?

I might not do everything perfectly, but I can show rap, vocals, and dance. More than anything, I think my positive and bright personality is my biggest charm

How do you prepare yourself mentally and physically before performances?

Mentally, I remind myself that it’s natural to feel nervous about making mistakes, but I try not to focus too much on those worries or think too much about disappointing the fans. I try to let go of that anxiety for a moment.

Physically, when I get excited on stage, my movements can become too big and I might risk hurting myself. So I try to calm my body down by walking around and keeping myself balanced.

What kind of artist do you aspire to become in the long run?

Of course, I hope to become an artist who can have a positive influence on fans. But I also know it’s impossible to reach everyone.

Recently I realized that when I listen to old songs, they bring back memories and emotions from that time in my life. So I hope to become an artist whose music can bring back beautiful memories for people even after many years have passed.

For U_Chae (Dajeong):

What inspires you the most when creating or performing music?

The fans who listen to my music and enjoy the stage with me are always my biggest inspiration and source of strength.

What is something fans might not know about you yet?

When I debuted with PIXY, I was still a student and a minor. Now with AWU, I think fans will see a more mature side of U_CHAE as I’ve grown older.

What has been your biggest growth moment since debut?

After PIXY’s group activities ended and I began doing solo tours and living more independently, I felt that I had grown a lot during that time.

If AWU could visit the Philippines, what would you like to try or experience here?

Actually, we’ve never visited the Philippines before, either for travel or work. We would love to hold a concert there and meet our Filipino fans. We’d also like to visit Cebu, try surfing, and eat lots of delicious tropical fruits!

Can each member describe the member sitting next to them in one word?

DIA:LOLA – “Radio” (She always keeps things fun with new information and funny stories.)U_CHAE – “Unpredictable” (Her lovable and unexpected actions often make us laugh.)

U_CHAE:LOLA – “Comedian”DIA – “Umbrella”

LOLA:DIA – “Moon”U_CHAE – “Sun”

Please share a short message for your Filipino fans and City Writer PH readers.
