For those who are just discovering your music, can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your journey as an artist?

Hey everyone! I’m Kyupid, a brand new artist and I just dropped my first ever single ‘Semi-Automatic!!’ Growing up I’ve always been passionate about music—I started learning piano classically when I was two years old, and have been in a choir for over 10 years.

When I became a teenager, I discovered a lot of songwriters online, especially on YouTube, and I thought, ‘That’s kinda cool, I want to do that.’ So I started writing, and it quickly became the main way I cope with things and express myself. I’m really excited to share more songs with you all soon!

What inspired you to start writing songs and pursuing music seriously?

Honestly, there’s not a special reason behind it. It’s just that ever since I was young, music has been my biggest passion, and I always knew it was what I wanted to pursue in the future.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more aware of the uncertainties in this career, and with many people telling me to back out, but that reality check doesn’t stop me. I genuinely believe I have a lot to share with the world, not just as an artist, but as a person, so I really want to become successful in the music industry, and be able to share more of my work with a bigger audience.

How did you come up with the name Kyupid? Is there a story behind it?

I started identifying myself as Kyupid since I was around 10 years old? I forgot the specific reason—but I remember wanting to have a unique name for myself that is related to love as I might have been lovesick from crushing on this boy that I ended up having a total of 3 conversations in a span of 2 years.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences growing up?

I grew up listening to a lot of K-pop!! K-pop definitely influenced my music style a lot- from songwriting to producing.

The first group that I have ever stanned is Twice, and my bias is Sana 🙂

How would you describe your sound and musical style to new listeners?

I’m honestly still trying to figure out my own sound and style, but my newest single ‘Semi-automatic’ is really bubbly and cute, something I would listen to when I’m feeling hyped on a saturday morning.

I incorporated a lot of plucks and synths, and a lot of my friends said it has a similar style with ILLIT’s songs.

Can you walk us through your typical songwriting process?

I have to write songs at night time, that is when my creativity starts flowing (maybe because of late night thoughts??) I usually drop down my inspirations that I get from my daily life, or just from my thinking onto my notes app, and then at night I would read them and come up with a song from them.. or maybe a few!! Then, I start producing after I have some main parts of the song written and see how it goes from there 🙂

Your music has a strong emotional tone—where do you usually draw inspiration for your lyrics?

My inspiration is all from my past events, my thought processes, or even from stories that others have told me. By the end of the day I’m still quite young and my experiences are limited, but I can write countless songs from stories that others have told me.

As an artist, I find that a lot of things can be my muse and I feel easily touched by others’ experiences, and I love to create something beautiful from them.

What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from your songs?

I hope ‘Semi-automatic’ can provide you guys a boost in our mundane lives that revolve around work, school and other hardships!!

Could you tell us the story or inspiration behind your recent single?

There isn’t a particular story behind the lyrics- but mainly I wanted to create a song with a similar vibe with some of the K-pop songs I had listened to those days.

As an independent artist, what challenges have you faced in building your music career?

It is extremely difficult to navigate how to start, and how can I promote my music to a bigger audience. I am still unsure exactly what I am doing, but I’m doing my best and I believe I can figure it out one day!! I have already received comments and messages from supporters even as a small artist, and that motivates me a lot to continue 🙂

What has been one memorable moment in your journey as a musician so far?

The most memorable moment so far has to be the first time I heard the final mastered version of ‘Semi-Automatic.’ I had lived with this song as a demo and an idea in my head for so long. But hearing it fully finished, with everything sounding exactly how I imagined—it was overwhelming in the best way.

How important is visual identity or aesthetics in your artistry?

It is extremely important to me and I’m quite picky about it! Thankfully, I have a really good friend of mine who tolerates my demands and expectations and she drew a gorgeous album cover that fulfills all of my expectations for me.

In what ways has the internet or social media helped you connect with listeners?

It helped A LOT. That’s the main way my listeners found me as I have been making reels and TikToks to promote my music.

If you could collaborate with any artist in the world, who would it be and why?

When I’m more renowned, I really want to collaborate bixby or starfall as they are my favourite artists and I have them on my Spotify top artists all the time :3

What kind of music or artists have you been listening to recently?

I’ve been getting into shoegaze recently, after discovering Wisp a few months ago.

What motivates you to keep creating and sharing music?

My supportive friends, my small but close fanbase, and myself!!

What are your goals as an artist in the next few years?

Is 10k monthly listeners on Spotify doable?

Finally, do you have a message for people who are listening to Kyupid for the first time?

I hope you guys enjoy ‘Semi-Automatic’ and I can’t wait to share more music with you guys!!
