For readers discovering AnotherNight for the first time, could you introduce the band and the meaning behind your name?

Hello! We are AnotherNight, a band that shares the night with you.

Our music is rooted in J-rock, but we reinterpret various styles to create our own unique sound.

For us, “night” doesn’t simply mean a physical time of day—it represents the many different moments in your life.

So come and meet us in your night.

Welcome to AnotherNight!

How was AnotherNight formed? What inspired the band to start?

Howl: We were just a group of friends who made music together and thought, “Why don’t we try performing once?” Somehow, that simple idea led us all the way to where we are now. Haha.

If you could describe the band’s musical color and identity in three words, what would they be?

Night, Colorful, Unconventional.

Your music often has a very emotional atmosphere. What usually inspires you?

Sodi: Just like when you get to know someone better over time and discover new sides of them, I think new inspiration suddenly appears within familiar things.

Yebon: Sometimes in everyday life there are moments when time suddenly feels slower, or everything looks unusually vivid.

Whenever that happens, I pause whatever I’m doing and quickly write down the ideas that come to mind.

When creating a new song, what usually comes first: lyrics, melody, or concept?

Yebon: It depends on the song! If the instrumental comes first, I listen to it and decide the theme before combining melody and lyrics.

If the melody comes first, I usually look through the lyric notes I’ve written before and think, “Ah, this would fit perfectly!” Then I attach the lyrics and adjust the overall concept afterward.

Could you walk us through your creative process from demo to final recording?

Sodi: Sometimes the instrumental comes first, and other times Yebon brings in a sketch of the song and we arrange it together.

Usually, we start by writing the song form and chord progression, then move on to the instrumental arrangement. After that, Yebon adds the topline and lyrics to create a demo sketch file.

Howl: Then we rehearse it together and finalize the sound design and instrument arrangements.

Among the songs you’ve released so far, which one feels the most personal to you and why?

Sangwoon: “Every Breath You Take” by Sting. A drummer I really liked once played as a session musician for Sting, which led me to dive deeper into his music. This was the very first song I fell in love with.

What kind of message or emotion do you hope listeners feel when they hear AnotherNight’s music?

Howl: I hope people think of our songs as an escape from everyday life.

Yebon: Sometimes our music can bring joy, sometimes hope, and sometimes comfort—like it’s telling your own story. I hope listeners can truly feel the unique power that only music can have!

Sangwoon: Maybe… a sense of overwhelming emotion?

Sodi: A thrill—or a refreshing feeling.

How do the members balance and harmonize your different musical tastes within the band?

Sangwoon: When a sketch is made, we share our opinions and combine our ideas to find the best balance.

Yebon: Honestly, we just throw around ideas while working on it, and if I insist strongly enough, the members usually go along with it. Haha.

What has been the most difficult moment in your journey so far, and how did you overcome it?

Howl: It was always painful whenever members who had been with us from the beginning had to leave because of livelihood issues. But in the end, new and even better connections came along, helping AnotherNight grow into a more complete band and bringing us to where we are today.

Yebon: But right now our chemistry is the best it’s ever been.

Howl: Agreed.

Through live performances, how have you grown as artists?

Howl: I used to be what people might call a “stubborn session musician,” but the members helped me break those fixed ideas and show different sides of myself. It felt like finally stepping out of a well.

Sangwoon: Before joining the band, I had one foot in session work and another in the jazz scene. Becoming part of a band and experiencing life as an artist gave me more freedom and initiative, allowing me to grow beyond just being a player.

Yebon: I used to struggle between the joy of singing and my stage fright. But after performing live repeatedly, I suddenly realized that I was smiling brightly on stage and truly enjoying the moment with the audience.

Sodi: I originally studied classical music, but working in a band allowed me to explore many genres instead of being limited to one. It broadened my musical horizons and helped me discover new sounds.

Are there any artists—local or international—who have influenced your music?

Howl: Led Zeppelin, B’z

Yebon: Official HIGE DANDism, Penthouse, Thornapple… honestly, there are too many to choose from.

Sangwoon: Sting

Sodi: Nikolai Kapustin, Ryuichi Sakamoto

How would you describe the teamwork and chemistry within AnotherNight?

Sangwoon: It feels like everyone is holding a whip.

Everyone: (laughs)

Sangwoon: The moment someone sees an opening, they start whipping…

Yebon: It’s like a “criticism onion.” We tease each other, argue, and bicker a lot—but it’s also when we’re having the most fun together. It feels like a real family, like “Only I’m allowed to talk badly about them.”

Sodi: But when it comes to work, we’re very serious and we also give sincere compliments. We each take responsibility for our roles while supporting and pushing each other forward.

What goals or dreams would you like to achieve in the next few years?

Howl: Performing at Supersonic.

Sangwoon: Hearing a crowd sing along to our original songs at a festival.

Yebon: First, I want us to hold our own solo concert at a small venue.

Sodi: A solo concert at Olympic Hall.

Yebon: Hey, what does that make my goal then?

Sodi: Should I change mine…?

Yebon: No, I’ll change mine. Hmm… hearing AnotherNight’s songs playing on the streets!

Lastly, do you have a message for international fans and City Stories readers?

We are always doing our best to create great music and performances.

We hope to share even more diverse “nights” with more people around the world.

See you in our night.
