Formed under LDH JAPAN through a competitive international audition process, the multicultural trio represents a new era of pop — one that celebrates diversity, talent, and worldwide connection.
Since their debut with “Might Just,” Sweet Revenge has captivated audiences with their confident energy, genre-blending sound, and bold visual identity. More than just a girl group, they symbolize unity across cultures, bringing together different backgrounds into one powerful voice.
In this exclusive interview, Sweet Revenge opens up about their journey from debut stage, the meaning behind their music, and their vision as artists ready to leave their mark on the world.
For readers who are just discovering SWEET REVENGE, how would you introduce yourselves as a group?
We are SWEET REVENGE, a three-member international dance and vocal group made up of AGNES, ASAMI and LARISSA. We were formed in 2018 through LDH’s global search to create their first global group. With roots in Japan, The Netherlands, and Guinea, we bring together J-pop and global Pop & R&B to deliver a fresh and unique sound.
What is the story behind the name “SWEET REVENGE”, and what does it represent for you?
SWEET REVENGE is the balance of softness and strength. Cute yet fierce. Sweet yet bold. Built over seven years of persistence, our journey hasn’t been easy. COVID nearly stopped everything, but quitting was never an option. Every challenge only made our Revenge Sweeter.
We continue to rise, driven by passion and determination, with one goal in mind: touring the world and sharing our story everywhere we go.
How did each of you feel when you were finally chosen to debut as part of this group?
Our process was different from a lot of other groups that are made. There wasn’t really a final moment where the members got formed, we were honestly just the only ones that grinded through and never stopped believing in this dream.
We had a lot of members come and go but the last 3 years before our debut it was just the 3 of us training 6 days a week for 10-hours long. We were very grateful when we got the amazing news that we were able to debut with our first single “Might Just” on June 20, 2024.
Your debut single made a strong first impression—what message did you want to deliver through it?
“Might Just” was our debut single and we were so excited to finally share with the world what we had been working on for so long. The song and music video mostly show our fun and cute side and introduces the anime-inspired world of Japan, brought to life by Ayaka Ohira through our own avatars.
We hoped with this first song that our excitement and love-filled energy behind our music would radiate through the screen and speakers, making people want to get to know more about us.
How would you describe SWEET REVENGE’s sound and style in your own words?
Our sound has a timeless feel and will always want to make you dance. It can reach young and old, men and women. It’s cool, cute and sexy and a new mix in J-pop’s global sound.
What was the biggest challenge you faced while preparing for your debut?
Patience. Until we debuted we had no certainty if we would ever debut so we had to be so patient with nothing to hold on to only our dream and each other.
That uncertainty was incredibly difficult, and even to this day, patience continues to challenge us. Waiting tested us deeply, but it also made us stronger and taught us resilience.
It wasn’t easy, but staying patient and not giving up is something we’re truly grateful for today.
SWEET REVENGE is known for its multi-ethnic, global lineup—how does diversity influence your music and teamwork?
We each bring something unique to the group, shaped by our different backgrounds and experiences. When we started ASAMI already had a lot of experience as a dancer and trainee at EXPG (LDH’s dance school). She already performed as a dancer in Tokyo Dome before we started as a group. So whenever we rehearse choreography, work on formations or need stage directing ASAMI leads the way.

LARISSA has had experience doing dance competitions as a kid where she already did her own make up at 8 years old. She has a strong sense of stage presence and performance and can always help us get stage ready with a full glam.

AGNES joined the audition during her first year at Conservatory as a Singer songwriter where she had already gained experience performing and writing her own music, playing instruments such as the guitar, piano or kora. Whenever we focus on vocals or musical direction, AGNES leads the way.

How do you balance a strong, bold image with the “sweet” side of your concept?
We really are both sides. When you meet us and get to know us you can easily see that we carry the name in character.
When you first meet us you see more of the cute and sweet side, but when you get to know us a little deeper or when you see us perform our boldness and strength reveals themselves.
Is there a part of your concept that you feel personally connected to?
Every part of SWEET REVENGE is authentically us. From the beginning we have been the creators of our own concept. We manage our own social media, prepare our own setlist for performances, think of our own outfits and make up looks. We’re constantly thinking of new ways to present SWEET REVENGE to the world.
What do you focus on most when performing—vocals, choreography, or emotional connection with the audience?
All of the above! We focus on being fully prepared. Making sure our vocals and choreography are strong, but just as importantly, we want to show our character and stay present in the moment so we can truly connect with the audience. We rely on each other to bring our individual strengths and responsibilities to the stage, allowing us to give our best performance and leave the audience wanting more.
Can you share a memorable moment from filming your music video or rehearsals?
The blooper moments during rehearsal or shooting days are the ones that always stick with us and make us laugh after. Like ASAMI falling to the ground mid-choreo during one of our rehearsals. Or when we almost hit each other filming our dance scenes in the MINE music video because the space was so small and the house was 500-years old so we really couldn’t break anything, like the chandelier!
How involved are you in the creative process, such as styling, choreography, or storytelling?
With all our music video’s we’ve had a director and stylists creating the look and stories but we were always involved in this process.
That is something we have definitely been grateful for because it made us stay very true to who we are. If we didn’t like a look or idea we were able to say it and the people we worked with always did their best to adjust to where we all felt good about it.
Because we have learned a lot from experiencing this and doing our own social media, connecting and collaborating with people, we have grown more skills in being able to create projects ourselves.
For example, we have a few very exciting releases coming surrounding MINE which we all directed ourselves. One of these releases is the dance performance video of MINE which was fully created, directed & styled by us.
Which J-pop or global artists have inspired you the most as performers?
We have a lot of amazing artists we look up to and get inspired from. One of them is BLACKPINK. We really admire their journey as a girl group and everything they’ve achieved. In J-pop, 三代目 J SOUL BROTHERS from EXILE TRIBE, are a huge inspiration for us; watching their three-hour dome performances has shown us what it means to give it your all on stage.
We also really look up to the all-round artist Bruno Mars and wish to one day collaborate together.
What lessons did you learn during training that still guide you today?
Patience, consistency & repetition. Our vocal coach Larry Dopson from “1500 or nothin”, always used to tell us “it takes 10.000 hours before you get the result you want”. It emphasises that expertise is built through intense, sustained, and focused effort rather than just innate talent. He also kept telling us “always keep your feet on the ground”. Meaning to always stay humble.
How do you support each other
during stressful or challenging moments?
If one of us recognises that someone feels stressed we take them out to party! We love to dance, we love karaoke & we love Japanese sake. It always helps to take our mind off things and live stress free. If only for one night;)
As a group aiming for global reach, what kind of listeners do you hope to connect with worldwide?
People from all over the world! The three of us come from three beautiful countries and cultures, so when we see our music being streamed globally, it means our songs are connecting with people everywhere. That’s our biggest dream: for our music to reach every corner of the world and for us to meet as many listeners as possible.
Are there countries or cities you dream of performing in someday?
What can fans expect from SWEET REVENGE in the near future—new music, concepts, or surprises?
The country that’s definitely on top of our list is The Netherlands. LARISSA and AGNES both grew up there and it would mean so much to perform in our home country.
To finally show our friends and families, after all these years of hard work, what we’ve been creating.
We still have some very exciting releases around MINE that we have put our whole hearts into.
We really hope MINE will reach many people and hearts so we can keep up this dream and hopefully bring even more of SWEET REVENGE to the world.
What does fan support mean to you at this stage of your journey?
EVERYTHING! Without our fans we can’t continue. Fan support is the heartbeat of SWEET REVENGE. Each release, including our latest one ‘MINE’, is a reflection of everything we’ve worked for, and how it’s received can literally decide if we can continue as a group. Knowing our fans are there for us gives us the strength to keep chasing our dreams.
Your support means more than words can say.
Lastly, is there a message you’d like to share with fans and readers who are meeting SWEET REVENGE for the first time?
We hope you all feel our excitement, passion & love. If you love Pop and R&B music , if you love a diverse girl group with satisfying choreography, if you love Japan, if you love dreams, if you love woman then please join this ride cause we’ re about to take off!
