Nicole Robertson releases her debut alternative R&B single Dance Tonight
Singer and songwriter Nicole Robertson officially introduces her debut single Dance Tonight, an alternative R&B track centered on letting go of conflict and choosing peace.
Despite its title, the song is not actually about dancing.
“Honestly, I can’t dance,” Nicole jokes. “For me, ‘dance’ in this song is a metaphor. Sometimes we grow tired of explaining ourselves to people who never wanted to understand us in the first place. At that point, perhaps the best thing to do is walk away, listen to your favorite song, and choose peace.”
Written during the COVID‑19 pandemic, Dance Tonight first emerged from feelings of frustration in relationships, draining conversations, and people who constantly exhausted her emotional energy. Yet as the writing process progressed, it evolved into a reflection on emotional boundaries, self‑respect, and the courage to choose oneself.
This message shines through in one of its key lyrics:
“Why you always wanna be right?”

According to Nicole, this line captures an experience many people have likely faced: when a conversation turns into a contest to win rather than an effort to understand one another.
Musically, Dance Tonight blends alternative R&B with orchestral elements including cello, strings, and trumpet. Drawing inspiration from musical theatre, Nicole designed every section of the track to follow a distinct emotional arc—from frustration and reflection, to finally reaching acceptance.
“I’ve always loved songs that take listeners on an emotional journey,” Nicole says. “Sometimes people struggle to put their feelings into words. If this song can help someone feel understood, that means more than enough to me.”
Developed alongside producer KQueency, with mixing and mastering by Ivan Gojaya, Dance Tonight marks Nicole Robertson’s first step as an independent solo artist.
Because in the end, as the song’s core message puts it:
Sometimes the best response is not to keep arguing.
Sometimes, you just need to choose peace instead of proving you are right.
Dance Tonight will be released on June 26, 2026, across all digital streaming platforms.
