Can you introduce yourself to our readers and tell us how your musical journey started
I’m MaRe, a singer-songwriter. My journey as an artist began when I was in high school. I met my producer at an open campus event held by the school I now attend.
At the time, nothing really came from it, but two years later I had the chance to audition and reunite with the same producer. That encounter became the turning point that led me to begin my career as “MaRe” in January 2026.
What inspired you to pursue music as an artist and songwriter?
I grew up with four siblings, and as a child, I was always following my older sister. I was the kind of person who felt safer walking behind someone else rather than making decisions for myself.
But then I found something I truly wanted with my own heart for the very first time. Something I loved so much that I thought about it constantly, day and night. Before I knew it, my body would move on its own toward it.
Ever since the moment I discovered it, it has continued to make my heart race. That is music.
How would you describe MaRe’s sound and identity in your own words?
Delicate, but not fragile. I hope my music can become a small emotional charm that protects someone’s heart.
Your music feels very emotional and personal. Where do you usually draw inspiration from when writing songs?
I love riding buses because I enjoy watching people pass by and imagining their stories and emotions. You can’t truly understand someone just by appearances, but I like wondering what kind of life they live, or sometimes just quietly staring out at the passing scenery.
Being on a bus feels like being alone in my own world, while still surrounded by people. Somehow, it helps me write lyrics that feel more human and emotionally real.

Was there a specific moment in your life that made you realize music was what you truly wanted to do?
Ever since I was little, I was always singing without even realizing it. I loved singing so much that even when people told me to stop, I would stubbornly keep going.
Looking back now, I think that was when the vague dream of “living through music” first began to grow inside me.
Among your released songs so far, which one is closest to your heart and why?
The song would be “Ippome” (“The First Step”).
Right after releasing it, I had the opportunity to perform it for new students at my school’s entrance ceremony.
Through the music video, I received many comments from people saying things like, “This gave me the courage to take my first step.” Realizing that the message truly reached people made me incredibly happy.
What message or feeling do you hope listeners receive when they hear your music?
Even when someone feels lonely, I want my music to remind them that they are never truly alone.
How would you describe yourself outside of music? What are your hobbies or interests?
I love taking photos, watching anime, and of course… eating!
Who are some artists or musicians that influenced your style and creativity?
I think I’ve naturally been influenced little by little by all kinds of music I heard in everyday life growing up — music playing in the car, or songs my siblings were listening to.
But the very first artist I truly admired was RADWIMPS.
I think their music is beautiful because it expresses emotions so honestly and directly, without pretending to be anything else.
What is your usual creative process when making a song?
Sometimes I decide what kind of song I want to write before I start, but other times I simply write down words and emotions as they come to me, and eventually they turn into a song.
It really depends on the moment.
What has been the most memorable reaction you’ve received from fans so far?
Fortunately, I often receive comments on social media complimenting my voice. Also, someone once told me I look like MEM-cho from the anime Oshi No Ko, and that really stayed with me.
I did think, “Maybe our hairstyles are kind of similar!”
Were there any challenges you faced while building your career as an artist?
It’s not really something I’d call “challenging,” but I’ve set a personal task to upload three a cappella cover videos every week, and I spend a lot of time on song selection.
If you could collaborate with any artist in the world, who would it be and why?
I absolutely love the tone of Billie Eilish’s voice, so I would be very happy if someday our paths crossed and we could collaborate in some way.
What do you think makes Japanese music unique in today’s global music scene?
I think anime music plays a huge role. I get the impression that anime often becomes the gateway for international listeners to discover Japanese music.
There’s something very unique about how songs are delivered together with a story — I feel that’s one of Japan’s special strengths.

Have you ever thought about performing or connecting with fans in the Philippines?
Absolutely! I would be so happy if one day I could actually perform in the Philippines and meet the people who listen to my music in person.
I hope music can continue connecting me with people all around the world.
What goals or dreams do you hope to achieve in the future as MaRe?
If my music can become something like a small protective charm in someone’s everyday life or personal journey, that would make me truly happy.
Is there a message you would like to share with your international supporters and future listeners?
To all the listeners overseas, and to those who may discover my music in the future:
The fact that people from different countries and languages can still find and listen to my music feels incredibly special to me. I’d be happy if you could casually enjoy it, and even happier if my songs could become a tiny emotional comfort on difficult days
I’m hoping to release new music soon
Lastly, what can fans look forward to from you in the coming months?
There will also be a new music video coming out, so please look forward to it ☺︎
