For readers who are discovering your music for the first time, could you please introduce yourself?
Hello, I’m JUN0, an artist who expresses my own unique color through a variety of genres. I create music with the hope of bringing enjoyment and excitement to listeners through every song.
What inspired you to begin your musical journey?
I’ve loved listening to music since I was very young. Naturally, I became interested in creating my own music, and what started as a hobby gradually turned into a serious goal that has led me to where I am today.
Is there a special meaning behind your stage name, “JUN0”?
The “JUN” comes from my real name, Junyoung, and the number “0” represents new beginnings and endless possibilities. I wanted a name that was simple, memorable, and meaningful.
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Music, imagination, and unpredictability.
You officially debuted in 2023 with the single Honestly, I Don’t Need Love Anymore. What is your strongest memory from that time?
The moment my music was officially released and appeared on streaming platforms is something I’ll never forget. I was incredibly nervous, but at the same time, I felt genuinely excited.
Since your debut, in what ways do you think you have grown the most as an artist?
In the past, I focused mainly on what I wanted to express. Now, I also think more about the listener’s perspective. I feel that not only my musical quality but also the way I communicate emotions has grown over time.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a solo artist?
I’ve learned that consistency is everything. Even when results don’t come immediately, continuing to create and build over time becomes your greatest strength.
As a singer-songwriter, what part of the creative process do you enjoy the most?
My favorite moment is when a new melody suddenly comes to mind. Building lyrics and an atmosphere around that melody and watching a song gradually come together is the most exciting and immersive part of the process for me.
Where do you usually find inspiration when writing lyrics?
Some inspiration comes from real-life experiences, but I also draw a lot from imagined situations, movies, dramas, and other forms of media. Rather than writing only about my own stories, I enjoy exploring a wide range of emotions through imagination.
Among the songs you’ve released so far, which one holds the most special meaning for you?
My debut song, Honestly, I Don’t Need Love Anymore. It was the first song I released under my own name, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
How do you decide which emotions or stories you want to express through your music?
I usually focus on the emotions or situations that interest me most at a particular time. Even when exploring themes like love, I try not to repeat the same story and instead express it from different perspectives.
What does a typical day in the studio look like for you?
I often start by listening to music or searching for references and inspiration. After that, I spend most of my time recording, revising lyrics, and refining the details of my songs.
Your full-length album WDYL showcased a new musical chapter for you. What message did you want to convey through this album?
I wanted to show that even within a single theme like love, there are countless emotions and situations that can be explored. At the same time, I wanted to demonstrate that JUN0 is an artist capable of expressing many different musical styles.
Which track from the album best represents who JUN0 is today?
I would choose I Wish Time Would Pass More Slowly (느리게 흘러갔으면 해). It captures the emotional tone and atmosphere that I love most, and I believe it naturally represents who I am as an artist today.
Are there any genres or styles you would like to explore in the future?
I’d love to create more music inspired by the sound and atmosphere of 1990s R&B. I still listen to a lot of music from that era, and I’d like to reinterpret those influences through my own style.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of music?
I enjoy listening to music and relaxing at home. I also spend a lot of time watching YouTube. In general, I’m very much a homebody and enjoy staying indoors.
Which artists have had the greatest influence on your musical style?
Among international artists, Justin Bieber has had the biggest influence on me. Recently, I’ve also been listening to JUNNY and dimorex quite often, and their music continues to inspire me creatively.
Is there anything about you that fans might find surprising?
Honestly, I don’t think there’s anything particularly surprising about me. (Laughs.) I’m generally energetic in everyday life and not very different from how people see me. The only thing is that when I’m at home, I hardly talk at all.
If you could collaborate with any artist in the world, who would it be and why?
I would love to collaborate with Justin Bieber. He was one of the biggest reasons I started making music in the first place, and I believe I could learn so much from working alongside him.
What goals would you like to achieve in the next few years?
I want more people to discover the name JUN0 and continue growing as an artist who consistently releases great music.
Can fans look forward to any upcoming projects or releases?
I’ll be returning soon with a new double single. I can’t reveal the exact release date just yet, but it shouldn’t be too long from now. I hope everyone looks forward to it.
