“Miracle Songstress” Yokez Ye Yuling joins forces with Taiwanese “underdog rock band” Ba Qing Ge for this cross-border, remotely created track. Turning life’s uncertainties into song, Stop and Go encourages listeners to keep moving forward even when the future is unclear — to look, walk, and pause along the way. Slowing down to appreciate the journey itself is an act of courage.

Yokez first connected with Ba Qing Ge’s keyboardist and guitarist Ah Xiong during a songwriting camp. Feeling an instant creative chemistry, she invited the band to collaborate — a decision that also marked her first time stepping outside her comfort zone to try rock music.

Lead vocalist Yolo, who wrote the lyrics, initially worried his limited English might create misunderstandings, and even hesitated to share his demo. But those fears proved unfounded: Yokez praised his work for its strong visual storytelling, telling him there was no reason to feel unsure. When they finally met in person, they worked through the lyrics over a meal of Taiwanese hot pot, finalizing the text in less than an hour. A relieved Yolo joked, “Turns out we solved everything over dinner! If one meal isn’t enough, just have two.” Yokez laughed in surprise: “What did you even have to be nervous about?”

Singaporean singer-songwriter Yokez launched her career in 2018. Known for her sweet yet powerful vocals and sincere, detailed songwriting, she has released more than 20 original tracks and surpassed 2 million streams on Spotify.

A frequent participant in major music competitions, she has also recorded theme songs and insert tracks for television dramas while working with Warner Music Singapore, and performed at large-scale concerts and awards shows.

In 2025, she was selected for Spotify’s RADAR program, highlighting her growing ambition as an artist.

Now working independently, Yokez seeks to challenge herself by collaborating with musicians from different backgrounds.

“Stop and Go” brings her together with Ba Qing Ge—a group known for their “underdog spirit.” Having previously written music with Ah Xiong, the band agreed immediately when invited.

Asked about their “underdog” reputation, Yokez related easily:

“I’ve had my share of ups and downs over the years. I call myself an ‘indestructible cockroach’—only by bouncing back do you get the chance to be a winner.”

She fully understands the band’s message:

“Life is never smooth sailing. Everyone faces self-doubt and frustration. What matters is not how many times you fall, but whether you have the courage to keep going.”

“Stop and Go” explores the idea that there is no rush to reach the finish line.

In chasing musical dreams, growth and uncertainty go hand in hand—moments of confusion, self-doubt, or detours are all part of the journey. The lyrics carry subtle meaning: “Keep walking, keep walking, keep walking” represents choosing to move forward even when the path ahead is unclear, while “Look, walk, and pause” reminds us to slow down and appreciate the view.

Though she has performed on countless stages, Yokez admits she still feels nervous trying new things, but follows her own philosophy:

“Start first, adjust later. Most answers are found along the way.”

Yokez met the band’s lead vocalist Yolo and guitarist Min only during recording. Yolo’s fear of struggling with language barriers vanished quickly; Yokez bridged any gaps using a mix of Singlish and casual conversation, and their efficient work style impressed both Ah Xiong and Min.

The music video was filmed in Yilan, marking Yokez’s first shoot outside Taipei. Expecting to miss city life, she found herself captivated by eastern Taiwan’s scenery and expressed interest in traveling further south to Hualien and Taitung.

The band immediately offered to act as her personal tour guides, promising great food and stunning coastal and mountain views. Yokez joked, “I’ll trade you a song as payment!” The band happily agreed, while Yolo — a self-proclaimed food lover — admitted he was already thinking about where to take Yokez to eat before filming even wrapped.
